Where do I start?

I suppose I had best start be introducing myself. My name is Ben and I work in the I.T. sector for a local newspaper. I have recently moved to a house with a fairly big back garden, so I thought I would put it to some good use and start a vegetable patch with have a few hens.
My life plan is to pay off the mortgage and live off the grid and be mostly self sufficient (imagine no electric bills and hot water whenever you want it plus all the vegetables you can eat all for free).

Over the weekend I purchased three, 19 week old hens and a chicken hutch with run. All for the grand sum of £110. So by my reckoning if 6 free range eggs cost £2 and hopefully I will get three eggs a day, so I should be in profit in just under 4 months!
Saying that the hens have not started laying yet and knowing my luck I bet have bought three duff ones!

We have already named the hens Penelope, Henrietta and Gem (don't ask me it was the wife's idea). Penelope is the tamest one and has already spent a good few minutes on my lap not to mention my shoulder!

Henrietta and Gem are still trying to work out who's the boss. I recon this will take a few more days then I'll put all my effort in trying to tame them.

We also have three cats so I can imagine some fun times ahead whilst they all get used to each other.

I'll keep you posted on events as they unfold and I'll upload some pics of the girls. Hopefully I will have time to post on here every few days but if something happens that needs special attention I'll post sooner.

Hi Miyo

Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you. My plans failed, I still have a mortgage plus now I have an additional credit card!
I will try again when I have everything sorted money wise.
